Jim and Susan use a type of prayer ministry similar to Theophostic developed by Dr. Ed Smith in his work with individuals whose lives were damaged by parents or others involved in satanic ritual abuse.
“Theo” is the Greek word meaning “God” and “Phostic” is the Greek word meaning “light”. The combined idea is to bring God’s light to areas of darkness and woundedness in a person’s life.
Jim finds that this type of ministry provides tremendous help to individuals who are experiencing emotional pain and relationship problems, which typically are the result of being sinned against as a child.
These wounds may be of two types. First are the wounds caused by various types of abuse prior to 12 years of age. Second, the wounds caused by the parent’s neglect to give the child what was needed to thrive in life; such as meaningful love, wholesome physical touch, and/or positive affirmation. Often this second type of wound is the more difficult to get healed. However, Jesus, the Healer of the brokenhearted, working through His people is able to heal either type of wound when it is brought to Him.
As children we generally experienced several load bearing wounds that Satan used to plant lies in our hearts. We accepted these lies because they felt like the truth, but they actually produced bondage. As adults this bondage causes us to react to our spouses, other primary persons in our lives, and even our Heavenly Father. When the lies are brought to Jesus, He speaks truth, the power of the lies are broken, and the pain is healed. This result is a freedom to respond, rather than react, empowered by Abba’s grace.
